Finally finished up this project. Many thanks to Hieu for modeling it for me and attempting to make sense of my own ramblings when I couldn't and Rob Showalter for giving amazingly turbo helpful critiques. haha

Demo reel has been updated again and website will be undergoing a new layout change pretty soon.

Off to SIGGRAPH 2011 in a week~~ :D

I'm not dead I swear. Here's more work in progress:

This sample only has basic colormaps, wip normal maps and no lighting yet. There will be colored lights in there soon! XD

This was inspired by a scene from this odd epic-classical dream I had. The turbomazing Hieu Nguyen agreed to model my idea for me (cause he's an amazing modeler!) and now I'm working on the textures, lighting and post. :) Linear workflow ftw~ More to come soon!

Life Post Ringling WIP

So UPS decided it would be a great idea to play soccer with my computer...so I've been stuck for almost 2 weeks without Maya. :( So much for updating my demo reel and the likes. orz

lighting and texturing WIP:

Model provided by the awesome Russell Miller. There's still a lot of little details that need to be refined... curses UPS give me back my computer so I can be productive! T___T

But I have been sewing and drawing on driveways in the mean time. 8D

Big canvas is... big. haha XD We should be allowed to draw on sidewalks more often. :)

Say what you want about anime or manga, but this is my childhood and my daily inspiration and I'm proud of it! Anyways, this is my second DFA assignment: "Midnight Eve". There's going to be a second painting that goes along with this one. :D Hopefully a possible thesis idea?

Year of the Lion

So we had to do a DRAMATIQUE piece for our Drawing for Animators (aka illustration for CA) class and I wanted to do a lion dance.

Wasn't nearly as red as when I originally painted it. I hate how monitors always screw with my colors and saturation!

Detailed close-ups for the face/fur. And yes, I did paint all of the strands. It was super tedious but I enjoyed every moment:

I've always loved seeing lion dances during New Years celebration but always found it a bit confusing whenever I saw the people performing them. It's supposed to be a celebration and yet half the time the people under the costume always look so serious or pissed off. BE HAPPY PEOPLE. :D Joyous occasions are supposed to be JOYOUS.

I'm still not too fond of the final design. I dunno... I'm just not a huge fan of caricatures. It took A LOT of restraint to keep myself from doing a portrait of myself.... *sigh* will I ever get this right? :/

Also the patterns on my shirt were a pain to paint. I actually sat there with that exact shirt hanging in front of me as I attempted to copy the design. XD;;; It was tedious but strangely enjoyable.

These were done for my "Drawing for Animators" class (aka DFA). I had a really difficult time with these because my regular drawing style doesn't look like this. :/ Pulling designs out of silhouettes/textures has got to be one of the most painful things I've ever had to force myself to do... but I'm still going strong! (sort of....)

For this project, we had to texture a tombstone, light and texture a cemetery in 2 different times of day. I chose dusk/sunset and early midday (like 10am-12pm ish) The saturation of the lighting keeps changing on every screen.... -___-;;;

Stills:

Models were provided for us by Ringling. I lit it in Maya, created the textures in PSCS3, rendered through Renderman and composited in Shake. I love Shake. XDD

Student government has kept me busy for the weekend, so I'm a bit behind schedule for Finals Week. X____x;;; GAH. You're looking at next year's executive board Treasurer. Hahaha..... oh dear.... .__.;;;

So umm... apparently my body hates me and decided to come down with VERTIGO 2 days before Christmas and 5 days before I was supposed to go to NYC. Needless to say, I was bedridden for a full 6 days and even now, my head is still constantly spinning. It's like I'm perpetually trapped on a rocking boat, but it's actually just my own body. Seriously... of ALL THINGS TO GET. GAH. Epic PHAIL.
